Journal of Law and Social Policy

Call for Papers

The Journal of Law and Social Policy (JLSP) is seeking submissions for future issues. The JLSP is a open-access, student-run, peer reviewed journal that publishes on a range of topics at the intersection of law and society. It focuses particularly on the impact of law on low income and disadvantaged communities.

The JLSP was founded in 1985 as a publication for the Ontario Association of Legal Clinics. The JLSP is now proudly hosted at Osgoode Hall Law School but maintains its historical connection to Ontario legal clinics.

The JLSP welcomes two types of submissions. First are academic articles. These should not exceed 12,000 words including footnotes.

Second are "Voices and Perspectives" submissions; a unique type of piece published by the JLSP. The Voices and Perspectives section of the journal seeks to foreground different voices and approaches to reflecting on the experience of law and social policy. For the Voices and Perspectives section the JLSP encourages submissions in non-traditional formats, including reflective essays, creative non-fiction, and poetry. Voices and Perspectives submissions are typically under 4,000 words.

The JLSP welcomes submissions from academics and scholars, but also from community legal clinic practitioners, students, the private bar, activists, organizations, and community members with direct experience of law’s impact.

For inquiries, please reach out to the JLSP at JLSP@osgoode.yorku.ca, to the current student Editors in Chief, Madeleine Harvey (madeleineharvey2024@osgoode.yorku.ca) and Peter Gatti (petergatti2024@osgoode.yorku.ca) or to the faculty Editors in Chief, Margaret Boittin (mboittin@osgoode.yorku.ca) and Benjamin Berger (bberger@osgoode.yorku.ca).

Submissions can be made to the submission portal: https://digitalcommons.osgoode.yorku.ca/cgi/submit.cgi?context=jlsp
