Abstract

Osgoode Professional Development had the pleasure of hosting the IFLP Wave One Launch 2019 Skills & Internship event last night at our newly constructed space in downtown Toronto.

IFLP is a collaboration among participating law schools and legal services employers of all kinds to develop and deliver training and paid internships in skills including; the business of law, project management and process optimization, legal technologies, and data analytics.

Participants heard from innovation trailblazers, Monica Goyal from Osgoode Hall Law School; Mark LeBlanc, General Counsel, TVO; Fernando Garcia, VP Legal of Cargojet, Carla Swansburg, VP & General Manager of Epiq, Jordan Furlong, Principal of Law21 and Jason Moyse, Lawmade & Elevate.

The attendees also got to hear stories from Osgoode students who attended IFLP’s pilot bootcamp in 2018 and went on to IFLP summer internships. Inaugural Canadian intern employers including McCarthy Tetrault, Oslers, Blakes, Kira Systems and Bennett Jones were also in attendance to explain why they participated and what students did.

The event was a success as legal professionals from all over Toronto came to learn more about foundational skills in the business of law, project management, and process optimization through legal technologies and data analytics.

The future of law certainly looks very bright!
