United Nations Appoints Osgoode Professor Signa Daum Shanks to Participate at UN Forum on Indigenous Issues

Abstract
The United Nation’s annual Forum on Indigenous Issues has appointed Professor Signa Daum Shanks to participate in its May meeting.
The event, from May 9 to 20, 2016 at the UN headquarters in New York City, will focus on the theme of “Indigenous Peoples: Conflict, Peace and Resolution” and will address matters such as the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, the roles of UN member states protecting Indigenous processes, and the responsibility of various UN agencies to improve Indigenous nations’ local and global roles.
Participants meet with government officials from member states, Indigenous organizations, and both the Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and the Chair of the Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
