Abstract
Isabel Karpin focuses on the legal function of the concept of "normal" in laws regulating reproductive choices and laws protecting against harms to future children. She suggests that the concept of "well-being" and the concept of "normal" should not be conflated. In order to explore this question, this presentation will examine the decision in a number of jurisdictions to allow sex selection of embryos using PGD (preimplantation genetic diagnosis) to avoid the birth of a boy in families where two or more males have been diagnosed with autism.
